Limp Wrist

Limp Wrist is a hardcore band featuring members of Los Crudos, Hail Mary, and Kill the Man Who Questions.

Referring to their style of hardcore punk music, the band declared in Frontiers Newsmagazine, “We put the ‘core’ back in homocore”. Their first recording was the self-released demo Don’t Knock It Till You Try It. This was followed by a single called “What’s Up With The Kids” and then the self-titled LP Limp Wrist. However, since band members lived in different states maintaining the group became difficult. After an interlude they resumed touring in 2004 and released a new LP, Complete Discography the same year. The song “Ode” from this recording pays tribute to pioneering gay hardcore musicians Gary Floyd of The Dicks, Randy “Biscuit” Turner of Big Boys and Joshua Plague of Mukilteo Fairies and Behead The Prophet, No Lord Shall Live, providing a historical context for Limp Wrist.

The band’s best known song is “I Love Hardcore Boys, I Love Boys Hardcore”, which received much attention from fans and press alike. Lead singer Martin Sorrondeguy appears in “Queercore: A Punk-u-mentary” by Scott Treleaven and addresses the issue implicit in these song titles, what some might view as the apparent struggles of being both queer and being involved in the punk scene.

In 2004 Sorrondeguy released his own documentary film, “Beyond The Screams: A U.S. Latino Hardcore Punk Documentary.” He had begun the film while still a member of his former band Los Crudos.

It's been a while. Don't blame me. And yeah, most people already know G-ANX, but still, they're awesome.

I know sweet fuck all about this band. It's crust but with weird ass melodies and stuff. Definitely recommended.

I'm pretty sure that Flashbacks is a discography CD, but I really can't be fucked looking it up. I have a couple of their 7"'s though if anyone wants them.

Pillsbury Hardcore

Pillsbury Hardcore formed in the summer of 1984 out the ashes of Disinfection & DDT. The band was named by a friend, Pat Kwee, after another friend (Dean Riley Stokes, who on the first gig was their guitar player) who resembled the Pillsbury Doughboy and was feverishly into hardcore, hence Pillsbury Hardcore. Their first show was a party where everybody was getting drunk, in retaliation to what they were experiencing, they borrowed instruments and called themselves “The Straight Edge Fascists/Pillsbury Hardcore”. The set consisted of a improv jams with lyrics made up on the spot and basically annoyed all the party goers (this was basically the band’s mantra until the end). This would continue for a few more parties and into their first bonafide show, which featured Scab on vox, Bob Durkee on guitar, Jon Roa on bass, and Joel Connell on drums. This lineup lasted one show and Shawn Connell was brought in on bass duties which also lasted one show when Shawn was moved to guitar and Eric Wood on bass. This lineup lasted for nearly two years and produced a demo (Poppin Fresh), a live tape (Live In 85), a appearance on Flipside Video, two 7″ records (In A Straight Edge Limbo & Horror Snores), and two compilation appearances (End the War Zone & Empty Skulls 2). Sadly the group disbanded in the summer of 1986. After a brief break, the band minus Scab, reformed. Which produced a failed attempt at an album (which Scab contributed vocals to). The album material was not up to snuff so plans to release the L.P. were subsequently scrapped.
The band continued for another year which produced some of the tightest material the band ever produced and was the groundwork for the oncoming “Power Violence” movement. After a short U.S. tour the band called it a day.
Other members went on to form Pissed Happy Children, Shoeface, Process, End to End, & of course Man is the Bastard.

Satanic Malfunctions

Satanic Malfunctions was an English hardcore band with lyrics full of political and vegetarian views. Their music was extremely fast to the like of Lärm, Heresy, and Cryptic Slaughter, which will always equal greatness.



That video was when they were on their first German tour with SM-70. Same gig as the SM-70 video I posted before too.

SM-70

Prominent in the mid to late ’80s, SM-70 was a German hardcore punk band, one of Germany’s precursors to grindcore and powerviolence. Their blinding speed took cues from Siege and Deep Wound. They could be compared to bands like Septic Death and Ripcord. They have two EPs and a split with English Hardcore band Satanic Malfunctions.

Tipper's Gore is a hardcore band from Orange County and they rip. Awesome band from the modern scene.

ACxDC - He Had it Comin'

Anti Christ Demon Core is a powerviolence band from Azusa in California. This is the only stuff they're released I think, can't be bothered searching it.

Rapt - Demo 85

Rapt were a noisy hardcore band from France which formed in the mid 80's. They have an extremely unique sound for hardcore and it's great. Seriously, check this out.

Siege was a highly influential hardcore band formed in 1983 in Massachusetts. This band is killer. Some people say that Siege invented the style and sound of grindcore. Anyway, you need this album. Get it now.

Throbbing Gristle - 20 Jazz Funk Greats

Figured I'd save this for last. Throbbing Gristle were an experimental industrial band formed in 1976 in London. This album is some of the weirdest stuff I have ever heard. Still a great album though, infact, it's one of my favourites. Check it out.

Negative FX

Negative FX was apart of the Boston crew in the early 80s and seriously, these guys are easily one of my favourite hardcore bands, and you can tell that they had a big impact on the whole powerviolence thing. Too bad they only lasted like 5 shows? I don't know.
This was recorded in 82 and it's divine. You need this.
