Impetigo

Impetigo were a pioneering grind band from Bloomington in Illinois. Started in 1987 by Stevo (bass, vocals) and Mark (guitar) and eventually added Dan (drums) to their line up.
After releasing their live demo All We Need is Cheez in late 87, the band gained popularity in the underground. Their first LP Ultimo Mondo Cannibale, released early 1990 on Wild Rags Records was well received in the underground and even sold well overseas.
In mid/late 1991 Impetigo recorded my personal favourite of theirs, Horror of the Zombies, which was released on Wild Rags in 1992. Also, one of the things I love most about this album is the great use of samples. My favourite being the one on I Work for the Streetcleaner. The album art for it was done by long time friend Cannibal Jim. This released showed how the band had progressed through the years to develop an extremely heavy and sick sound, it also showed that the band was ready to be taken seriously.
Impetigo played around 30 shows in their 6-7 year life including some big events including Rhode Island Death Fest, two Milwaukee Metalfests and a show in Puerto Rico. They played with bands such as Repulsion, Macabre, Deceased, Incantation, Phlegm, Rottrevore, Psycho, Brutal Truth, Nuclear Death, Organic Infest, and more.
In 1993 the band decided to call it quits after their final appearance at the Milwaukee Metalfest VII. The band had always wanted to keep things on a personal and underground level and they had grown much bigger than they ever thought they would. They were also disenchanted with what was going on in the scene with all the shit talking and backstabbing. All this coupled with the regular pressures of jobs and family caused the band to call it quits.
They did a reunion gig for the 20th anniversary of the band, but it was one show only.
